Many of you will have noticed that you now need to use your DET username and password to access the Internet from a TAFE PC. This is called “authenticating”. These are some questions that people have asked:
When do I add “@edu” to my user name?
•If you are logging on to a PC add @edu to your user name - mary.citizen@edu
•If you are going to the Internet don’t add @edu - mary.citizen
•If you are going to the DET Portal don’t add @edu - mary.citizen
I keep accidentally closing the Internet on my PC and when I reopen it I have to authenticate again. How can I stop myself from closing the Internet by mistake?
If you open 2 websites using Tabbed Browsing you will get a warning before the browser closes. (Go into help and search for "tabbed browsing" if you do not know how to use it.) When you get the warning, cancel then minimise the Internet instead of closing.
Why was I asked to change my password the first time I authenticated?
You must change your password regularly to maintain security. If you have not logged on to the DET Portal lately, you will not have received any reminders about changing your password. Now you need to authenticate, you will get that message whenever your password has expired. You can change your password on the DET Portal at any time.

You have probably noticed new magazines on display in the library for loan. BUT are you aware that your name may be placed on a circulation list of your choice to receive the new issues as they come in! Toolboxes are teaching and learning resources that contain simulated interactive activities, scenarios and images that support units of competency for particular courses.
The library has a number of these toolboxes but to see all that’s available go to TALE for a complete list. You will need to use your DET portal login to access the site. Search the TAFE part of the site using the “show advanced options” link so you can limit your search specifically to toolboxes. The toolboxes you find are free to view and download. Help is provided on the site or contact library staff for assistance in person.
Toolboxes can also be customised to suit individual needs and a real person called a toolbox champion can help you with this if you need it. Our very own Shane Dowd from Macksville campus is the NSW toolbox champion.
