Jill's Book(s) of the Week 20 February 2009

Are you looking for some light reading - adventure, mystery and a few giggles here and there? Then you may like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series of books. I believe she has written fourteen of these now, and your library has most of them.

In the first novel, One for the Money , Stephanie has lost her job and is down on her luck. Then she has a job offer from her low-life cousin Vinnie who runs a bail-bond company. She has to bring in sexy Joe Morelli, a policeman turned outlaw. However, she is in great danger from Benito Ramirez, a murderous prize-fighter. Will Joe be able to help her?

Janet Evanovich's characters are eccentric and appealing and the action of her novels fast-paced - great for a relaxing read after a busy day at TAFE!

Granny Day

Monday 23rd February will be Granny Day in the library, in honour of Jill's becoming a Granny again. Library staff will be dressed as grannies, and we hope that staff will also dress as grannies and grandpas. There is a prize for the best dressed granny or grandpa.

A new baby!
Jill's new grandson arrived on Wednesday evening 18 February at Figtree Hospital in Wollongong. His name is Davison Fovargue Hall, and parents Trudie and Ned are delighted with him!

Danielle's book of the week 12 February 2009
Hi all,

The Library’s book of the week is…..

Back from the Brink : how Australia’s landscape can be saved by Peter Andrews

This book sketches the ideas and thinking of Peter Andrews, a revolutionary farmer and the subject of ‘Australian Story’s’ most popular episode. Having both practiced and preached his radical farming practices (referred to as Natural Sequence Farming) for over 30 years under much opposition and ridicule, Peter’s ideas are only now being taken seriously on a large scale…. because they actually work.

Back from the brink explains that by abandoning our European ideas for working with the Australian environment and by adopting practices that are specifically suited to Australia’s unique climate and landforms, farmers will be able to convert their properties and business to sustainability.

Written in relation to Peter’s own Hunter Valley property, this is no ‘dry’ read.
