This introduction to word processing assumes
that you can use a mouse and keyboard.
Microsoft Word is an easy-to-learn application
which will enable you to create and edit documents such as
assignments, essays, and letters.
Steps to be followed will be similar in other
Windows-based word processors eg the Microsoft Works word
processor.
Links are included to a beginners' tutorial,
and to other resources.
INTRODUCTION
Producing a typed “word processed” document
is one of the commonest tasks people do on a computer.
Today, most teachers expect assignments to
be submitted in word processed form.
If this is a challenge, don’t worry. Producing
a simple word processed document is easy. You will find that
the ability to easily change and correct your document while
you are producing it, means you can keep improving it up to
the last minute, without having to re-write the whole document.
SOFTWARE
If you are using a NCI computer to produce
your assignment, Microsoft Word is the
software you will use.
If you use a home computer and do not have
Word, your computer may have Microsoft
Works or ClarisWorks instead, or some other program. If
not, every computer which has a recent Windows
operating system has the basic word processor
WordPad as a built-in accessory. For basic word processing
operations, these will perform much the same as Microsoft
Word does.
