It’s great if your teacher’s style of instruction
suits your learning style, but good teachers will use a variety
of styles. If the style of teaching doesn’t suit you, think
of some ways to change it to your preference.
Here are
some ways you could do this:
If you’re a visual learner: take notes, draw
diagrams or mindmaps
to illustrate what the teacher is saying.
If you’re an auditory learner: participate
in class discussion and ask questions.
If you’re a kinaesthetic learner: take notes
to bring movement into the classroom situation, participate
in any opportunity to role-play.
Can you become proficient in all three sensory
pathways to learning? Use occasions when information is presented
to you in a style you don’t normally favour to practise your
skills using that style.
Even though the focus on a certain way of learning
varies in different vocational areas, all use each style to
some extent. It’s a good idea to develop some skills in
all three!
