Knowing what your learning style is can help
you learn better and more easily!
WHAT
IS A LEARNING STYLE?
Learning is a very complex process and there
are many theories about how it happens. This is only a simple
introduction to these theories.
We usually talk about three different pathways
to learning: sight, sound, and movement.
These three styles of learning are often labelled visual,
auditory, and kinaesthetic. Once you recognise
the way you learn, you can use the strategies which help you
learn most effectively.
HOW
DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR LEARNING STYLE IS?
Most people have some idea already about how
they prefer to learn. If you’re not sure, the example
below will give you some idea.
Imagine you need to program a new video recorder.
How would you prefer to go about this? (Let’s assume you can’t
find someone to do it for you!)
If you’re a visual learner, you’d probably
like some reliable written instructions.
An auditory learner might like someone to tell
them how to do it.
A kinaesthetic learner would probably just
get right in there, using trial and error to work it out!
Which of these three people sounds like you?
There are lots of online questionnaires available
to help you identify your style.
