searching by topic (continued)

If you don't have a reading list, or if there is nothing suitable on it, you will have to find information resources yourself.

The library catalogue, library databases and the internet will be your major sources, unless you are planning to use community sources.

To use these sources effectively, you will need the search terms you developed when you analysed your topic in Getting Started.

reminder

Your search strategy will also be influenced by:

  • how up-to-date the information needs to be;
  • what level of information is required; and
  • what aspects you need to concentrate on.

- the things you thought about when you were Getting Started.

library catalogue

Learning how to use the library catalogue is not hard - but there are a few things to know to increase your chances of success. The TAFE NSW Library catalogue lists the resources of all TAFE libraries in NSW.

tip from your librarian

"As you search, keep a careful record of what you have done, and details of items you found useful. That way you won't waste time repeating searches.

You may find it helpful to download and use this bibliography record sheet."
