improving your internet search results

Your initial search may not be successful, or might return too many results. Some ways of refining or improving your search are:

  • Search for phrases by enclosing search terms in ".." eg "family history".
  • Refine your keywords.
  • Use the search engine's help and advanced search screens.

"My topic concerned local bush conservation initiatives and I wanted some information on the Wingham Brush reserve. I put the phrase "Wingham Brush" into the search engine, using the " " to link the words. The 24 results didn't take long to look at and several had the information I needed."

"My assignment dealt with irrigation equipment. My Google search brought so many results I could still be looking at them! Lots of sites were companies selling equipment. Instead, I went to the Weblinks site and found a few good sites which led me to what I wanted to know."
