finding information

Welcome to Section 2 - Finding Information. This section covers using your reading list and searching by topic.

At the end of this section you will be able to:

  • recognise citations for different types of information.
  • search the TAFE NSW library catalogue using the information
from citations and by using keywords.
  • search library databases using keywords.
  • use internet search engines.

review

Before proceeding, let's review what you have from Section 1 - Getting Started:

  • A list of topic keywords.
  • An understanding of the requirements of your assignment.
  • Some ideas about the types of information resources that may be useful.

See Getting Started for help with these.

reading list

You may have a reading list. A reading list has suggestions from your teacher about what resources may be useful for your assignment, or for your course generally. It typically will contain citations (details) for books, periodicals* and websites.

To search for information, let's start with your reading list.

your teacher says

"If I haven't handed out a reading list, I may still be able to suggest resources. Why not ask me?"
